DJ Roodz 2017 Recap

Hello everyone, and Happy 2018! Now that we’re settling into the New Year, and (hopefully) working hard on our resolutions, I’d like to take a look back at the previous year. 2017 was undoubtedly a year of growth. I released original tracks and mashups, and met and made friends with some truly talented DJs and artists. Without further ado, let’s check out some highlights from the past year:

Ed Sheeran – “Shape of You” [DJ Roodz x Black Ivan Remix]

2017 definitely started with a BANG! Black Ivan and I have been good friends for longer than I can even remember. To be honest I can’t believe it took us this long to collaborate on a project. This moombahton-inspired remix is still one of my favorite tracks of all time. It’s since racked up over 5,000 plays and even got picked up by SMASHTHECLUB, GoHardInDaaPaint, and other publications.

Behind the Booth with DJ Puffy & DJ Trayze

I was extremely fortunate to interview two prominent DJs in the Redbull 3Style scene. Trayze is a two-time American champion whose multi-layered sets are truly thought provoking. Puffy, the current world champion, uses his live sets to tell stories, infused with Caribbean flavor reminiscent of his home in Barbados.

The Weeknd x Major Lazer – “Light It Up, Starboy” [DJ Roodz Mashup Edit]

Bounce Boat ft. Laidback Luke

What started out as a night hanging out and shooting video with La Patilla turned into an unforgettable experience. From seeing the new Denon CD players up close, to hanging out backstage, to meeting LBL himself, Bounce Boat was on another level. Laidback Luke is a truly humble and authentic person who helps keep DJ culture alive in a way only he can. Just watch the video below:

The Goldie Awards

DJ Puffy convinced me to grab a ticket to the Goldie Awards at the last minute, and it was totally worth it. The amount of talent on the stage was immeasurable. Watching artists like Vekked, Miles Medina, and K Swizz was seriously inspiring. Hanging out with Skratch Bastid, Trapment, J. Espinosa, and Jus Jay was an experience in itself.

5 Steps to a Great EPK

5steps EPK Cover

I spent a good part of 2017 really working behind the scenes on the business part of DJing. One important aspect of this is having a quality Electronic Press Kit (EPK). I’ve made mine available here for you to use as an example.

I just want to take this second to give a wholehearted “Thank You” to the folks at Flattopps in Astoria for my monthly slot, as well as RC Nightlife for adding me to their weekly rotation; I’ll be playing weekly in some of Rockland County’s hottest spots through 2018!
