My Top 5 Tracks – November 2016
Hey everyone! This year, I was lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving outside the United States – I spent a week in Paris visiting my girlfriend on her study abroad! As awesome as it was to see her and all the sights (yes, we did all of the touristy things, like the Eiffel Tower), I was just as excited to see for myself what people listen to in France.
Some of the biggest names in electronic music call France their home, including the legendary duo Daft Punk, as well as David Guetta, Madeon, and Tchami. But, I was pleasantly surprised to hear none of them. To me, it’s the equivalent of someone coming to New York and hearing Jay Z nonstop. I already know who he is! The whole world knows who he is! Play me something cool that I probably haven’t heard at home!
These 5 tracks stood out:
Caro Emerald – Tangled Up (Yarin & Richwood Remix)
I absolutely love this track. “Tangled Up” has this electro-swing vibe that reminds me of playing at the Palms back in April with Kirk Cosier and Wes Laga. Wes has gotten me into electro-swing lately, and I honestly can’t stop dancing along. Expect to hear this track in my sets for the next few months!
Elin Rigby – By My Side
In a word, “By My Side” is…sexy. It oozes cool. The harmonies are reminiscent of Ellie Goulding at her peak, and the instrumentation screams electronica. I can’t wait to see what the chillstep/dubstep/trap producers are going to do with this one!
Jonas Blue ft. Raye – By Your Side
Okay, so now we’ve gone from “By My Side” to “By Your Side” (see what I did there?). You heard it here first, I’m calling it – “By Your Side” is going to be the summer jam of 2017. This track just feels so summer. The intro pianos remind me of Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars,” and the drop has a flavor not unlike “This is What You Came For” or “Where Are U Now.” Don’t be surprised if you hear this in my sets in the very near future!
Eau Claire – All the Wonder
Since I got into Nu Disco (check out my “Pumped Up Kicks” remix to get an idea), it’s been hard to find tracks like “All the Wonder.” The pianos and drop complement each other perfectly. It’s funky, but not too much. It’s deep, but not too deep. And it’s SUPER dance-able! There’s a classic Chicago house vibe, but the vocals are so tropical. “All the Wonder” is the perfect Instagram montage track, for all you slideshow lovers.
Format:B – Chunky
My good buddy DJ Cue played this track in one of his recent sets, and I’ve honestly been listening to it nonstop since then. It’s my wake up song. It’s my gym song. It’s my pump-up-before-that-test song. The only other song I can compare it to is “Steam Train” (which I listed last month). To all you house heads, this one’s for you.
